What fears have you overcome and how?
Daily Prompt

The irredeemable dyslexic that I am, I read this prompt very wrong. “What ferns have you overcome and how?” It made me think of the following ferns I came across a couple of days ago, at the Garfield Park Conservatory:

But since we’re on the topic of ferns and fears, I think I can answer the actual prompt too. I’m writing this on a trip to Chicago. I can remember, not too many years ago, being afraid of basically everything about travel. The flights, the big spaces, the tall buildings, and most terrifying of all, how every little thing can go wrong. I’d heard about the horrors: gross bathrooms, dropped phones, and forgotten wallets. This stuff was what I was most afernd of. The particulars were always heavy on my mind, and it ruined the whole experience! After making a big deal about it in my head, I would be a little embarrassed to find that everything turned out all right in the end. Those things still happen, of course, but over many trips, I find them less disquieting. Yesterday, I was lost in downtown Chicago with a dead phone, and today I’m sitting here with a stomachache, a dino plush from the Field Museum next to me, and happily thinking, “What a wonderful time I’m having in the beautiful windy city of Chicago!”
Happy travels, all!
