I’m noticing that many in the WordPress community answer that they think about the future more than the past. And what a beautiful idea, living for all the exciting things to come!
Recently, a young woman on Instagram shared a different perspective. She described an alternative to the Western conception of the future. Some cultures in Nigeria, she argues, view the passage of time not as a linear progression that starts at today and stretches into the distance but as a culmination of everything that comes before. Essentially, she says, that time doesn’t seem to be on a timeline, and that the future doesn’t even “exist” until it enters the past.
Perhaps, this influencer would say she considers the past more often than the future because the past is the essential foundation for what is now, and we have yet to see what comes next.
