Netta’s Bassa Sababa

Netta is incredibly body positive, fashionable, and talented.

It makes me think about a great love of mine- FASHION!

At the center of women’s fashion is a very idealistic idea:

It doesn’t matter what size or shape you are; a tailored Armani daydress cinched with a Gucci belt (paired with classic black pumps, of course!) will lift you up socially. The glow-up as a great leveler.

Why, then, does Netta assert, “I love my thicker figure, I grew a thicker skin” in a video where she gets left at the alter? It’s as if her figure is under discussion.

I would say that fashion is not an equalizer – or at least not where it matters. For example looking good is the baseline in an office and you don’t get extra points for designer heels.

So does fashion deliver on its promise? Does it really empower all women, all body types? Probably not.
